Partial casing of welds

Welds are particularly prone to damage by environmental effects, as they cannot be coated until later. This means that the coating can only be carried out directly on site at the place in which the pipe is pulled in. By using GRP it is possible to carry out this work process within a very short time and to avoid subsequent damage to the welds. The work in the lightproof tent and targeted use of UV lamps cures the material in a controlled way. A curing process “from the outside inwards” additionally prevents the production of fumes.

Coating the welds on site with GRP

The welded joints are protected by applying one-component light-curing resin in conjunction with individual woven glass fabric and/or glass nonwoven layers on the welded joint. The system is particularly suitable for pipe jacking and horizontal drilling methods (HDD). For the HDD method, an additional corrosion protection system (two-tape system) is applied. The work is carried out directly on site, at the pull-in place. By using UV light-curing GRP, it is possible for this work process to be carried out within the shortest possible time. A tent protects the work from the weather.

Additional application of the GRP weld coating

Due to the simple application and fast curing by means of UV light, the GRP coating can also be used as protection for soil-air changeovers (e.g. station construction and pig traps). The individual woven glass fabric and / or glass nonwoven layers are applied with the high-quality resin using a winding method. The areas are then optimally protected against mechanical damage and impacts.
